Protaras - The resort of Protaras is about 45 minutes east of Larnaca airport and has grown over the last 20 years, from a simple fishing village into a superb resort for holidaymakers. It is one of the most picturesque parts of the island of Cyprus. Check out our Villas to rent in Protaras.

With its blissful golden sandy beaches lapped by the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean it is little wonder that Protaras is getting bigger all the time – more and more visitors are coming here every year. The most famous of all the beaches in Protaras are both Fig Tree Bay and next door Flamingo Bay. The resort itself spreads over 10 miles of coastline, most of it fringed by stunning bays and little idyllic coves. Protaras is a modern, purpose-built resort, popular with watersports fans of all kinds, Watersports and scuba-diving being available all along the sands, although generally, the pace of life in Protaras is one of unbroken relaxation and tranquillity.

Equally calm but growing is the nightlife. Restaurants offer international and local food and the few discos are also popular with locals. There are plenty of bars, tavernas and choices of eateries around the area, with a vast choice of international cuisine. Why not explore the area around Protaras and nearby Paralimini, browse around the wonderful shops, visit a medieval monastery, churches in the surrounding villages, stop for a drink or meal at a local taverna before returning to your Villa or Apartment in Protaras, for your choice of evening entertainment or that simple al fresco dining at your own ‘home in the sun’.

This area is the main potato producing area of the Island of Cyprus, and is known as "Kokkinochoria" which means "red soil villages". The villages of this area are equally known for their folk poets, who are regarded as the best on the island. The area is also renowned for the famous windmills all over the region in Protaras and Paralimni.

Pernera - Situated on the northern outskirts of Protaras, Pernera is a small coastal resort popular with couples and families seeking a holiday destination away from the hustle and bustle of Ayia Napa and Protaras. Pernera is an ideal holiday destination, being situated so close to Protaras and Fig Tree Bay. With the introduction of the new Walkway/Promenade, running from Pernera Beach, right onto Fig Tree Bay, the two areas are now joined by a short 15 minute stroll (or longer, if you want to while away the time, stopping for a drink or two at one of the restaurants and cafes along the Promenade). At the beginning of Fig tree Bay is a brand new Jetty and walkway which is a lovely feature.

The centre of Pernera has a selection of shops, cafés, bars and restaurants to visit as well as a small but active harbour from where boat trips can be taken. Regular bus services are also available from the centre, travelling into Protaras and Ayia Napa beyond, or back to the lovely town of Paralimni, which its many shops and cafe bars and medieval churches in the centre.

Kapparis - Approximately 4km north of Protaras, Kapparis is a growing resort situated close to borders of Turkish occupied area of Cyprus. A quieter location which is extremely popular with holiday home buyers and retirees, visitors will most likely come to relax at nearby Fireman’s beach, and relax in one of the many restaurants or bars which are now in the area. Very up and coming location, offering a quieter holiday than nearby Protaras and Pernera, but within easy reach of these busier resorts. Served by a regular bus service to the larger resorts of Protaras and Ayia Napa.

Paralimni  - With the Turkish military occupation of Famagusta in 1974, this small town of 6,000 inhabitants, is now the main administrative town of the district and is rapidly becoming one of the fastest growing, modern towns in Cyprus. Here, you will find an abundance of modern shops, bars and Tavernas, all around the outskirts of the lovely central square. The twin aisled vaulted church of St. George is decorated with unusual 18th century porcelain plates. Parts of the church belong to the 13th century. Some other interesting churches can also be found in the area. 

Cape Greko - Explore the rugged coast toward Cape Greko, with all its beautiful sandy coves, and experience the famed Cape Greko sunsets. Cape Greko (or Cavo Greko to locals), is a National Forest Park and occupies a huge area of outstanding natural beauty. The Cape’s nature trail is an experience not to be missed.

PROTARAS BEACHES

Fig Tree Bay - This beach is the most popular within Protaras Beach . The British christened it ‘Fig Tree Bay’ and the name was given after the single fig tree that stands back from the beach and is claimed to have been brought from the east in the 17th century. The beach has fine-grained sand, the sea is crystal clear and there are plenty of recreational facilities like water-skiing, paragliding, jet-skis and more.

Konnos Bay - A secluded little beach at the foot of a rocky climb, Konnos Beach is located around 2km north of Cape Greko. Konnos is amongst Cyprus’ most picturesque beaches with fine golden sands and beautifull crystal clear waters. For the more active, a variety of water sports can be enjoyed, with paragliding, waterskiing, motor boating and jet skiing

Green Bay Beach - To avoid the crowds, visit this beach. The beach offers a good swimming spot and provides umbrellas and sunloungers to rent. An ideal place to avoid the summer crowds, Green Bay beach is located to the south of Protaras beach. Sun loungers and parasols available to hire, it isa great place for a leisurely swim. 

Louma Beach - Close to the resort of Pernera, Louma is a popular sandy beach just north of the main Protaras strip. The beach has good facilities, with sun beds and parasols available to hire and a variety of water sports to try including banana boat rides, waterskiing and paragliding. 

Pernera Beach - Surrounded by an assortment of restaurants and tavernas, Pernera P is a Blue Flag accredited beach located on the northern border of Protaras. Sun beds and parasols are available to hire and a variety of water sports can be enjoyed. 

Fireman's Beach -  The last of the beaches north of Protaras, Kapparis beach (known locally as Fireman's beach) has fine golden sands and shallow blue waters. Secluded and unspoilt, the beach has basic facilities but is extremely popular beach for swimmers and sunworshippers alike. No watersports on this beach. Very safe bathing here for children and babies.
